You Know the Score...

Who is the Greatest Drummer of All Time? Slightly rhetroical if you're reading this here I guess - but I it also appears the readers of Consequence of Sound have equally discerning taste in music.  Naturally Chamberlin stolls in the top 16 Drummers of All Time in their recent readers poll - but will he be voted to the number one spot...

Yamaha Discontinues Signature Snares

OK, there's been some rumours floating around here and elsewhere on the www. I spoke to my friend, the owner of my local drum shop, and he confirmed it. Apparently it was announced at the NAMM show earlier this year and none are listed on the official site any more. They've stopped making them now, so any brand new signature series snares you can still get, are the last.

It is Official - Chamberlin Signs with DW

Jimmy Chamberlin would like to announce that he is now playing Drum Workshop!
"After 18 years at Yamaha I have decided to move on. I feel that DW is the company that can take me, and my evolution as an artist, to the next level. They are truly an amazing company that are at the forefront of innovation and are making huge leaps in the advancement of the instrument. I feel like I have found a home with like minded people who are just as obsessed with drums as I am! I wish everyone at Yamaha the best and thank all of you for 18 great years."

Jimmy Chamberlin on New Album by LEILAMORDE

Apparently 'Jimmy Chamberlin drum samples' are on a number of tracks.

Check some of it out here... and here

More info about where these samples originated anon...

(I'd put money on JC drums being on "Qui non c'è gravità"...)

(Update: 12 May 2010) I got in touch with Dom and Marcello from Areasonica Records and this is what they had to say about the samples;
...when we chose the drumsets, we had various options, so we [used] the Jimmy cd-samples/loops* because they fit perfectly for some tracks...Chamberlin was not directly involved, but the jc-drums we used...influenced some tracks...
...yes the track "qui non c'è gravità" ("there's no gravity here") is fully jc.

...At least five or six of the other tracks have double or triple drum-sets, where only bits and pieces of jc-drumset have been used... Basically, jc is in the first four tracks, track 8 and 10.
* I'm assuming they mean these...

Great to hear Jimmy Chamberlin's influence in another 'genre', other than the ones he's usually associated with...

So reports spinner:
Billy Corgan Headlining Benefit for Former Smashing Pumpkins Fan Club Leader - Spinner

...Corgan will take the stage [at Los Angeles' Echoplex on Nov. 8] as part of the Backwards Clock Society in order to help raise money for Laura Masura, the former head of the Smashing Pumpkins fan club. Masura shattered her leg on Sept. 9 in a motorcycle crash on the Pacific Coast Highway, stalling her ability to make a living producing jams... Corgan has also donated two special autographed items for auction: Jimmy Chamberlin's drum kit from the band's 1991 'Gish' sessions and tour, and Corgan's original bass guitar, which he played at the band's very first show and used on early demos. The items will be available via eBay soon.

Ed. Billy didn't donate the kit, Laura did. Jimmy signed it.
And the touted SP E-Bay store has an eBay profile

Update 21/10/2009:

Pumpkins Return to Their Patch...

With 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' a 44 Song album to be released for free, a song at a time - holding true to what Jimmy said back in March 2008: "I don't think we will make records again... The Pumpkins... will probably start releasing songs [rather than albums]." Chamberlin continued, "It's just in our best interest to release blocks of songs. And I think what we'll do...is to create the framework where we can release a number of songs and maybe create a title. We can gather three or four songs, but it will all flow up to a larger body of work."

"The music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' harkens back to the original psychedelic roots of The Smashing Pumpkins: atmospheric, melodic, heavy, and pretty. " Recording began on the 15th, in Pumpkinland 2.0. Lets keep our fingers crossed that they can pull it off without JC.

A band is only as good as its drummer...

The drumming gets better as the plot thickens...

Netphorian 'legend' Davin met JC at the weekend, this is what Jimmy had to say about the music to come;

"The new stuff, drumming-wise, will far exceed the work on Zeitgeist. 'Even United States?' [Davin] asked. 'Oh yeah' [Jimmy] responded confidently".

However, HU updates their earlier post [reported here] stating; "A source close to Chamberlin says that the tale Jimmy told to our readers [about the Starlight Orchestra] is 'all b.s.'"

Jimmy Chamberlin Update

Reporting back from the recent "Zildjian On Tour!" appearances, this just in;

"[Jimmy said] he is doing a project with strings and is a big band/swing type thing with a record coming out early next year [2010] and a full tour. [Jimmy Chamberlin] Complex stuff hopefully after that." from, this source, right here
