It is Official - Chamberlin Signs with DW

Jimmy Chamberlin would like to announce that he is now playing Drum Workshop!
"After 18 years at Yamaha I have decided to move on. I feel that DW is the company that can take me, and my evolution as an artist, to the next level. They are truly an amazing company that are at the forefront of innovation and are making huge leaps in the advancement of the instrument. I feel like I have found a home with like minded people who are just as obsessed with drums as I am! I wish everyone at Yamaha the best and thank all of you for 18 great years."

  1. Crazy news! But nothing wrong with wanting to do something different. Goes right along with all the other big changes in his life. Might be that he wants to shake off past associations and just have a fresh perspective on everything. And it's always fun to try new gear!

Hoping his inspiration level remains high and continues on with The Complex at some point.

  2. Shirty drums in pretty wraps. Dislike

  3. All I can say is, I did not see that coming. Don't know what to make of it at the moment.

  4. Hopefully no other parts of your April Fool's post are true, Drev.

  5. Well...equally perplexing is the change in his tom setup. Really weird to not see that 14" first tom. Maybe that's not a permanent thing & he's just messing around with his setup...

    @ ace -

About the DW wraps....yeah--Yamaha has such amazing lacquered finishes.

  6. Ha, same here anonymous. Though I suspect he has little to no interest in what is happening in SP now.

Anyway aside from it just looking bizarre with JC sat behind that kit - i know it's a real challenge as a drummer to change it up; and it must be especially so, having played 20 odd years in that very particular way, with those tones from Yamaha. Having said that, we are talking about JC here. Certainly in the few videos from the show, it didn't look like he has any problem. It will of course limit his signature sound... But who knows, if he keeps experimenting, he may find an ever better set-up! Anyway - I'll be very interested to hear him talk about it, or if indeed he keeps it this way...

  7. I wonder if Yamaha will stop production of the signature snare. Kinda hoping for that so mine becomes somewhat of a rarity.

  8. Too bad there wasn't an announcement about this announcement.

  9. Haha, real subtle, Dystopic!

Man, it's going to be weird without that 14" tom on the left. I find it so hard when I minimize my kit and leave it off (it fast became a staple after I began imitating JC)--it just makes so much sense. Also, no primary china on the left side, which has also been a JC trademark forever. Like Drev said, I'm glad to see him changing things up though to force himself to reinvent the way he approaches the kit. Here's to some more creative amazingness coming from behind this new kit!

  10. 30 years, never saw a drum JC couldnt play or make sound good. Not worried about it. The DWs are exceptional, I have custom maples. Wish I had a set of the Yamaha Birch Customs too but hey, this stuff costs money and I dont get paid to play.(it's a hobby) At one time, I was going to swap the DWs for the Yamas, glad I didnt. JC+DW. Good match. You'll see.

  11. DISLIKE. JC is great, but JC+Yamaha is what drums are supposedly to sound like. Not a DW fan at all.
