Cherub Rock - It's Quite Good Yeah

There must be something in the air, luring me back to the blogosphere for a quick update

Vic's drum shop posted the following info the other day;
VIC'S NAKED TRUTH:

Ever since we posted The Smashing Pumpkins' "Cherub Rock" featuring Jimmy Chamberlin as our DRUM TRACK OF THE DAY on Tuesday, we've been inundated with folks asking us about the snare drum he used.

In the past, Jimmy has been known to use a variety of different snare drums in the studio that included a Pearl Free Floating Steel, a Premier Signia Maple with matching wood hoops, and of course his old Yamaha Signature steel drum. So this past Friday following his gig at Metro, we asked Jimmy what snare he used on "Cherub Rock" and his answer was:
A Ludwig-Musser Drums and Percussion - 6.5x14 Hammered Brass (LB422BKT)

Having a similar sonic quality to the Black Beauty but with a higher pitch, Ludwig's 5x14 and 6.5x14 Brass models are hammered using the same process as Ludwig Timpani. Though each has a similar hammering pattern, no two are exactly alike and vary slightly in tonality.

Meanwhile, Rhythm Magazine are also getting in on the Chamberlove on Facebook posting a link to this gem:

Elsewhere, Chamberlin's turn on the skins in the Hot Stove All Stars helped net "The Foundation To Be Named Later" a cool $200,000.

Going back into hiding again now.  [I will fix the set-up picture links soon, I promise.]

Jimmy Chamberlin Snare's Archived...

So, remember when Jimmy Chamberlin sold off a bunch of his snares a couple of years ago (2005)? Well, I happened to stumble-upon where some of them ended up;  right here, at the The Audities Foundation - a charitable organisation concerned with "the preservation of electronic musical instruments, sound recording equipment and associated documentation for use in museums, recording studios, modern instrument research and new music / dance / film works."

I may go through the list and match some of the snares, as I await my download of MCIS ...

GISH DAY !!!

Chamberlin's Gish Snare and a Smashing Pumpkins Gish Box-Set

Ahh, the good old free-floater.

Turns out that the guy who picked up Chamberlin's Zeitgeist kit also got a hold of the [missing] part of Jimmy's Gish era kit at the same place...

According to Mekong56, the store, who contacted Jimmy, explained that the snare was used both to tour subsequent to the release of Gish and on the album itself.  Read the rest of this story over at the Pearl Drummers Forum.

In other news, good old, Billy Corgan, mentions in a new video interview that he is still working on releasing a Gish Box Set to celebrate the album's 20th anniversary (next year).  But there's only one thing stopping it now. The evil fat cats at EMI aren't letting him do it. So, he's asked for some help - go show you support for the project here. Seriously, please do.

Jimmy Chamberlin Snare For Sale...

But probably not the one you think.

Remember when I posted this, a little post about a chap picking up Chamberlin's Zeitgeist kit. No?  ... Well, anyway, it appears that he's already got 3 of Jimmy's snare's. So, apparently according to the ebay blurb, can do without this custom built Akira Jimbo model, which came as a part kit, thus:

This is clearly a unique piece of kit. Go bid now if you want it... If you live in the 'States that is... grrrr
