Session Drumming...

http://www.musicradar.com/news/drums/what-makes-a-great-session-drummer-the-guitarists-perspective--572485
Jimmy Chamberlin on working with Gannin on the 5 World Class Drummers DVD. "It's a great educational tool for drummers to hear what an influence a drummer can have on a song. When you hear Ian Paice play a Deep Purple song you feel that interpretation and we as listeners tend to embed that stuff in our brain like it's written in stone. Certainly if you hear 'Take Five' with Joe Morello there's a certain expectation in the listening and our brains are used to being satisfied in a certain way.
What it does is tell you there are so many ways to interpret a song. Listening to Terry [Bozzio] play some of those songs with his ability to listen and re-interpret on the fly, it just tells you there really are so many ways to skin a musical cat and that the beauty of all of our playing is that no two drummers are even remotely alike. The five guys playing the same song are completely different interpretations of that song.
The beauty in drumming is really in the personality of the person holding the sticks and how the sound comes out through that personality, not really the technical proficiency. "We as humans get into this 'oh it's sacrilegious, it can't be this way'. What we have to get into our heads as artists is that really change is good and it doesn't have to feel uncomfortable.
A lot of times we get comfortable in our listening and it's a good way to push ourselves out of our comfort zone."

Modern Drummer Reprints an Old Interview with Jimmy Chamberlin

http://www.moderndrummer.com/site/2011/10/drummer-to-drummer-jimmy-chamberlin-and-william-mohler/#.To4mknJ-zcx

William [Billy Mohler]: What advice would you give up-and-coming drummers searching for their own voice?
Jimmy: Don’t go too far into someone else’s trip. Be your own player. You have something inside of you that is special and unlike anything else in this universe. Tap into it. Practice until you can release it. And then unleash it on the world. We’ll be listening!
Take heed, Mike Byrne.

They also have a cool clip from Gannin Arnold's DVD, if you haven't seen that...

New Jimmy Chamberlin Complex Tracks in the Works???

Gannin Arnold, Jimmy Chamberlin, Billy Mohler

Well, according to this (now tight lipped*) poster on the official and Absolutely Ground-Breaking SP.com messageboard, Mohler and Chamberlin worked on 3 new Complex songs back in November last year... Makes sense as this was the time members of the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex (Jimmy Chamberlin, Billy Mohler and Gannin Arnold) got together to play for the Drum Channel for Gannin's solo record and the 'Art of Drumming'

*sort of ;)

Here Goes Nothing (again)

Catch Taylor Hawkins again on Drum Channel rebroadcast, on January the 11th, fluffing Jimmy's parts.

In other news, Drum Channel have put up a couple of teaser vids for the Jimmy Chamberlin interview and jam with Terry Bozzio on their Youtube site...

Monday 13 December 2010

Terry Bozzio Auditioned for Smashing Pumpkins

That was something I did not know...

I'll keep you posted with any more info from the Drum Channel feature as I watch...

Ah, too much to go into now. Sorry. Fail blog. Twas very good...

But I will just say, based on what Chamberlin says in this interview & everything Jimmy has said since leaving the Pumpkins, at the clinics, on the radio shows; anyone who buys into Corgan saying that Jimmy wanted the band to be an 'oldies' act, is just plain wrong.

Just one last thing > HOLY SHIT the Terry Bozzio / Jimmy Chamberlin drum jam is absolute & pure GENIUS.

Jimmy Chamberlin Complex Live

A little blast from the past. A man, possessing some little technical wizardry, has upped this track from the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex's set at Pukkelpop festival, from all the way back in 2005...

ENJOY

Hopefully the first of more please :)

Cheers M

Edit: Keep your eyes peeled right here for moar

"Here goes nothing" - Hawkins plays Chamberlin

Wanna catch Taylor Hawkins play [live] with Gannin Arnold and take on Chamberlin's part to the title track to Gannin's new album, "Not From Here"? If so, head on over to the Drum Channel right now.

Tune in from 60 minutes in to catch Taylor almost completely fluff the song by dropping his sticks... He must have known before-hand it might be a little challenging,
"Here goes nothing...I'm going to have a lot of flounders on this one..."
And he did.  But, aside from that track and Chamberlin's other part to the track "Get On With It", following "Not From Here", which he does mess up (!),
"...It's called jazz, or creativity... kids I'm trying to play fusion!"
he handles the rest of the tracks with aplomb.

But the whole show really is well worth a watch, really enjoyable, these guys are clearly having an awful lot of fun.  And the music ain't half bad to boot.  It's also got a very insightful pre-show interview led by Terry Bozzio.
