  2. I know he's just messing around here, but damn, I love watching/listening to that guy play drums.

Kinda odd but cool to see him exploring around with different configurations. Never seen him with the ride over the bass drum like that...even if you look at old videos where he's playing a stripped-down kit for a TV performance (like Honestly) he still used to keep the ride way over to the side.

Dude just wants to do something different and is having fun.

With his background in carpentry I can see how he might enjoy the different ways DW experiments with exotic woods and grain combinations.

While watching this, can't help but think how sickening it would be to have lost this guy as your previous drummer in your band...phenomenal musician.

  3. Not to mention who he was replaced with...

  4. Every time I see him play, it makes me want to put down the guitar, buy a drum set and learn.

  5. Judging by the set up he's ordered, it does indeed look like he's switched up the layout of his kit.

  6. how do you know what kit he has ordered??

  7. PS - Based on the sizes he ordered, I bet some money, serious money that we will see the reintroduction of the left-side mounted 14 inch tom. Why else would he have ordered a rack 14 and a floor 14? Its all about diversity and mixing it up... 14 left side rack though will return. BTW - Did I hit the nail on the head or what when it came to his drum sizes?

  8. Didn't he always play a 16" & 18" floor tom (rather than 14 + 16)? I do hope to see the return of the trademark left 14" tom.

I noticed Matt Cameron doing something vaguely similar recently, having a floor tom next to his snare/hi hat.

  9. Wow, looks like he could be keeping the same dimensions but shallowing out his rack toms? Seeing as Yamaha don't go that shallow with certain diameters...

I hope he still maintains the 14-10-13 rack setup he's had, it's his signature setup!!

  10. I think he'll rock the 14-10-13 setup - it gives so much flexibility. The 8 incher will probably go behind and between his floor toms as he has done in the past.

I will note that in the Drum Channel video he did with Gannin Arnold and that new song recently, it looked like he had a 14-8-11 rack setup: http://tinypic.com/r/2ln7s09/7
Also, looks like he's rocking a a 14-16 floor tom combo here as well. I can't find a good overhead pic to compare to previously, but his small tom just does not look like it's a 10 incher. Here's a shot from the final Metro "Ode to No One" performance: http://tinypic.com/r/zwf7mw/7

He was also using a DW double bass pedal in that setup for Gannin.

In other news, the free stream of Skysaw has been down for the last 2+ days :(

  11. Also, you guys should keep in mind that the new DW kit comes complete with toms much shallower than their Yamaha counterpart. The 8 incher for instance, is 3 inches shallower than the Yamaha 8x8. These changes are significant enough to allow for experimentation in setup.

I can't wait to see his kit. It sounds beautiful.
